lately [tidbits + pics]

I was recently reminded that I haven't blogged in three weeks (thanks KAYCIE). Life has been busy and hectic and fun and OMG SUMMER. So here's what we've been up to - in bullet point form, naturally.

- Our house is officially on the market! As exciting as it is to plan our future in a new home (details to come on that in another post - I don't want to jinx it), it's pretty overwhelming in a lot of ways. 

First of all, we have a TON of last minute projects to wrap up before we have showings... you know those little things you've been putting off for years... like un-cluttering the empty bedroom and repainting the outdoor stair rail? We've been busting our asses (meaning, Sean has been busting his ass) getting all this stuff done. 

Also, it's a little emotional to think about leaving this place and starting over somewhere else. This was our first home we owned together and we have a ton of memories here. But I'm so excited to start fresh in a home that ISN'T 60+ years old. So yeah, that shiz has been a little crazy. 

- Ronin loves the pool. Granted, we've only been a handful of times, but he loves the water and that makes me such a happy Mama. We spent a few hours at the pool on the 4th of July and it made me so excited to spend his first Independence Day doing something fun. We had a little cookout at our home to celebrate the 4th and sadly, I took zero photos. But trust me when I say we are certainly enjoying our summer so far!

- My Arbonne business has been such an eye opening experience, and I'm really enjoying everything I'm learning about network marketing, our products, and building leadership skills. I'm bound and determined to move up in rank by the end of the year, and it feels extremely empowering to have a goal like that in mind. 

- I have yet to take Ronin's 10 month photos and he'll be 11 months old next week. I also sent his birthday invitations out this week and I may or may not have cried in the parking lot of the post office. This kid is looking more and more like a little boy and less like a baby by the day, y'all. And I just can't. 

Ronin's birthday invite - designed it myself, blocked out the address for privacy reasons, duh.

-  I'm currently reading Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn (author of the infamous Gone Girl), and I cannot put it down. It's been a long time since I was so into a book that I finished it in less than a week. We're reading it for our book club and it's going to be so hard to wait until August to discuss! 

- I'm thinking that we may have a slight intolerance to fruit going on with Ronin - either that, or I'm just giving him too much of it and he can't handle all of the fiber. He's been in disposables for about 10 days because he's been pooping SO MUCH, and he also had a nasty diaper rash that lasted for almost 4 days. It seems to be getting better (the poop frequency AND the rash) now that I've cut back on the fruit at meals, so let's hope that's all it was. 

I just talked about baby poop on my blog. I think I'm officially a mom blogger now?

tidbits.

- um, my kid is mobile (!!!!). thus, I can no longer sit him down to play independently without having to immediately chase him into the other room. baby gates are comin' soon, but until then, blogging has to wait until nap/bed time.

chasing the cats is his #1 favorite thing to do. 

- I am working on a little venture of my own as a way to bring in a little extra income. I'll wait til things are official, but I can't wait to tell you about it! I'm pretty excited.

- Sean is sick. AGAIN. he's been sick like 49 times since Ronin was born. men are the biggest babies when they're sick, amIright? I mean damn, I wish I could just lay on the couch all day when I'm sick.

- last weekend I went to Wine in the Woods. it's an annual event that showcases local wineries - there's yummy food and local music too. all in all, it's a grand ol time, and this mama got white girl wasted for the first time in what seems like forever (probably at least 2 years). it was a blast and I'm already looking forward to next year's festivities. 

- I'm supposed to be reading The Night Circus for my monthly book club and I'm still only like 20% into it. and I PICKED THE BOOK. we're meeting in a little over a week, so I need to start dedicating my evenings to reading instead of other shit.

- I cannot even fathom that I will be putting together Ronin's 9 month post this weekend. CAN'T. EVEN. how do you mamas do it? it kills me that he just keeps getting bigger and smarter and more like a little boy than a baby. and the fact that we are only 3 months out from his first birthday is enough to make me crawl in a hole and drink heavily, while crying uncontrollably. 

- oh yay, Ronin is up from his 30 minute nap. gotta go!

I think the blogging community can be so great for new (or not so new) moms. we all need a little pat on the back and a stiff drink hug every now and then and fellow mamas are perfect for that.

what's the deal, Bloglovin?

here is a quick summary of the last few days:

Sean: did you hear that Google Reader is shutting down?
Me: WHAT?! no! what the hell!
Sean: yeah, looks like you gotta find something else to organize all your blogs.

with some detective work, I see that most of my favorite blogs are (or already have) switching over to Bloglovin. I take a gander, a sneak peek, if you will, at the future home of my blogs.

I see a link that says I can transfer all of my daily reads (see also: precious gems) from Google Reader to Bloglovin. "SWEET, that'll make life so much easier," I think to myself.

and then I click the link. and nothing happens. I get sent back to the home page, which is telling me "sorry, bitch. you don't have any blogs to read. CLICK HERE AND ADD SOME THOUGH."

so naturally, I go back through this action about 284 more times before I finally click "help" and send a message to whoever is running that shitshow over there. and now it's been three days... I've yet to hear anything.

for the love of Julia Roberts, please tell me I'm not the only one experiencing problems with this. thankfully I have a few months to figure it out before all my favorite blogs disappear into the black hole that is Google Reader.

I needed some inspiration to blog more, and so I entrusted fellow blogger and boy mom friend Vicki to make my space pretty.

I wanted something that would grow with me, as the premise of this blog has clearly changed over the last few years. I also decided to ditch The Bear Naked Truth, sadly. it was time to retire the name that started this blog, and move onto something a little more grown up and not so... naked. ya know, cause I have a baby and shit now.

um, SO glad I reached out to her. girl's got skills, right?! if you need a little help in the blog design department, get your ass HERE and holla. and while you're there, say hello to one of the cutest little boys ever. 

baby registry must haves [COMING SOON!]

so I'm bound and determined to bring life back to this blog, damnit.

I remember when I was pregnant (which I miss, like woah) that I loved to look at other moms' must-have registry items. I scoured the internet and researched my ass off for the perfect items to add to my registries. honestly, a lot of the items I ended up adding were found through other lists from bloggers I follow, along with the ever popular Baby Bargains book.

so in order to pay it forward, I've created a few lists of my favorite registry items. these are things that made life with a newborn (cause let's face it, those first few weeks are no fucking joke) bearable and so, so, so much easier than they could have been.

please keep in mind that every family has different needs and that each baby is different. hell, our next kid might hate all the shit we have and I might end up with a completely different list next go around. the items featured in these upcoming guides are things that worked well for us and Ronin. so basically, take my advice with a grain of salt!

I'll post the first guide (baby gear!) soon.

I ordered this baby book earlier in the week.

personalized baby book. ours is navy & white.

in the notes to seller, I mentioned to her that I was due any day now and that I slacked on ordering a baby book. she emailed me back and offered to send me the pages once they came in from the printer so that I could have them to record important birth details and put his foot/hand prints on the dedicated pages. she would then send me the actual book when it was ready.
I thought that was so above & beyond my expectations that I had to share.

ceramics. as artsy as I was, I SUCKED at making pots and shit.

I couldn't, honestly. I'm just not a city girl. I like the quiet.

jellyfish. irrational, I know.

I'd finish up my interior design degree... which I plan on doing after this baby comes.

6.  Have you ever wanted to learn another language? Which one?

I was ----><---- this close to being fluent in French before graduating. my friends & I would have secret conversations at parties and no one knew what we were talking about. so, I'd pick French.

7.  Coca-Cola or Pepsi?

Pepsi.

8.  What is your favorite way to relax?

curl up with a good book.

9.  Favorite current obsession?

this fetus in my body. pretty much takes up all of my brain power these days.

right now? Washington Capitals.

11.  How would you spend $10million?

I'd do all the boring stuff like buy a house, pay off debt, donate to charity, etc. and then I'd buy a hippo, go to the Superbowl, get Lasik and laser hair removal, buy new cars (in cash, of course), and travel around the world in a hot air balloon.

I read Delirium last year and LOVED it. Pandemonium is the second book in this trilogy.

I bought this at the store this week, and I lurve it.
I got the "Hibiscus" color and it's perfect. I love that it's not a lipstick, and it solves my chapped lips problem that has been consistent through this pregnancy so far.

1. I lost my first tooth while sucking down a McDonald's milkshake in Norfolk, VA. I was there visiting my Poppop (who was stationed there as USCG) and I was VERY proud to show him my lost tooth.

5. I want a baby. BAD. I've yet to talk about our TTC struggles on here, and I'm not sure if it's something I'll ever delve into publicly. Just know that if you've been trying without success for a long time (12 + months), you are not alone. 
6. I didn't put my Christmas tree up this year. By the time we had a free day to do it, it would only be up for a week. It ain't that serious. 
7. I like some of my internet friends more than some people I know IRL. 
8. I have been smoke free for 417 days today.  
9. I have the tattoo itch! My calves will be next and I can't wait!

my proudest moment is anytime someone tells me that my mom would be proud of me. also, quitting smoking was pretty awesome.
