thirty thangs: #1

Heather has decided to create a blog linky party for this 30 Things challenge,
so make sure you visit her and play along!

Best of Both Worlds

#1. List 20 random facts about yourself.

1. I was born 4 weeks early (originally due in April) and weighed 5lbs9oz. teeny tiny!

2. I've been wearing glasses since I was 8 years old, but I didn't get contacts until I was 16.

3. I've been pronouncing the word "plethora" wrong in my head my whole life. I always thought it was "pleth-OR-a," not "pleth-er-a." haha.

4.  when I was a kid, we had all kinds of pets, including a giant pig and a rooster. the rooster used to chase us around the yard and attempt to kick us with his spurs.

5. I love mixing salty & sweet - I put salt on my watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, etc.

6. I have about 25 hours worth of tattoos, and I fully intend to add many more.

7. I fell in P.E. class when I was in 5th grade and hurt my wrist. my teacher at the time didn't believe I was really hurt and didn't let me go to the nurse. my mom took me to the hospital that night, only to discover my wrist was broken. needless to say, she was PISSED.

8. so far, I've read 23 books this year.

9. my grandmother made me a quilt when I was about 5 years old. I still sleep with it to this day. it has cats on it. :)

10. I've been singing Bohemian Rhapsody to Ronin in hopes that he will love it when he comes out of the womb.

11. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. mmmm turkey. mmm pumpkin pie.

12. I used to walk on my tip toes as a small child. I also sucked my thumb for a ridiculously long time. I wore braces for 3 years.

13. if I become half the mother my mom was, I could die happy.

14. I smoked cigarettes for almost 10 years before deciding to quit in October 2010. it was, hands down, the BEST decision I've ever made. I honestly can't believe I ever smoked, because I find it so disgusting now.

15. my best friend and I used to hate each other. ;)

16. Pinterest annoys me 95% of the time. I feel like you can't be original anymore, cause people automatically assume you got an idea from Pinterest. however, I still pin things I think will be useful in the future.

17. I don't tweet. ever. sorry if you follow me.

18. Counting Crows are my favorite band of all time, even though I mostly listen to country.

19. I am incredibly lucky to have married my best friend. he still makes me just as happy as he did when we first met 5 years ago.

20. I don't follow celebrity news, and I really don't understand the fascination of it.

Thursday thoughts

[1]
we watched a video of a vaginal birth in our birth class on Tuesday night. I've seen one before (my 11 year old brother's), so nothing about the process really shocked me. what DID surprise me was how emotional I felt watching that baby being placed on his mother's chest. I had to stop myself from bursting into uncontrollable sobs and embarrassing myself in front of a room of strangers. I cannot wait to have that moment with Ronin.

[2]
baby LBL's nursery makes me happy. I want to live there. he/she is a lucky little baby to have such handy parents! I'm so excited for Cole & Jus and can't wait to "meet" their little bundle.

[3]
I changed my mind on the bedding for Ronin's room. after finding sheets at Pottery Barn Kids for MUCH less than most Etsy shops, I decided to change it up a bit. I'll post sometime soon about the actual shop and the quality (the pieces arrived this week) once I wash them and get them in the crib, but here's what I ordered:

[4]
my official last day of work is August 3rd. it's pretty surreal to think that for the first time in 12 years, I won't have any income. frankly, it scares me quite a bit. I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to be able to stay home with the babe, but I know that a part of me will miss the independence that comes with having a (paying) job.

[5]
I am SO FUCKING TIRED of people telling me that we will give up on cloth diapering. look, I get it... people tend to be threatened or intimidated by ideals that are not "the norm" in their social circles. but guess what? it's none of your fucking business to begin with! if I mention that we plan on cloth diapering, don't shake your head and respond with "yeah, good luck with that... we'll see how long it lasts." I don't know what it is, but it seems as if people inhale some stupid in their brains when they're around pregnant people.

[6]
on a happier note, Mama cat loves little brother already. you're welcome for the cute.

also? I just realized that I can't talk about anything non-baby related to save my life.
WTF happened to me?!

Happy Thursday!

Thursday Thoughts

play along with Sar

[one]
Sean made me the most delicious salad for lunch. I haven't been eating so healthy lately, so I was really happy to consume something other than junk. way to go, hubs!

[two]
I visited my vet's office yesterday to tell her about the baby (yes, we're that close... crazy cat lady, remember?) and she had babies of her own! she had a kitty come in to be spayed and discovered that she was pregnant. new mama now has 3 itty bitty kittens to care for - they were 2 days old when I met them yesterday. so wittle!

[three]
I bought my Hunger Games tickets yesterday... for the midnight premiere. I've never been to a midnight showing before, but I am SO thrilled about it! I really hope it lines up with the book... I'd hate to be disappointed in yet another book turned movie.

[four]
there are only 35 days left until we are relaxing right here for 5 days.

[five]
I'm really sad about not being enrolled in classes this semester. when I found out I was pregnant, I decided to drop the two architectural classes I was registered for. I was super stressed out last semester, and I didn't think it was a good idea to add that stress onto a pregnancy. I miss it though, and I really hope I'm able to get back into the swing of things next spring.

[six]
I'm reading The Red Tent and I cannot get into it. I've heard nothing but great reviews about it, so someone please tell me it picks up. I'm only about 14% into it, so I know not to give up just yet, but I'm reaaaaally struggling with wanting to read it.

Thursday Thoughts

linking up with Miss Sar for some random musings :)

{one}
I finally made an appointment to have this mop cut! I haven't had anything done to it since JUNE of 2011. it's in definite need of some TLC. I think I'm going to keep my color the same, but trim the ends and add some more layers. still undecided on whether I want to grow out/keep my bangs.

{two}
I don't like the new actor playing Spartacus. I'm glad they're continuing the show, but I don't think it'll ever be the same without Andy Whitfield.

{three}
I have no idea who I'm going to root for during the Superbowl. I hate the Giants (Redskins fan), but I don't really like the Patriots either.

{four}
we have a little mini photo session planned with Jessica this weekend - it's been so long since we've had our pictures taken so I'm a little nervous. but Jessica is a fabulous photographer, so I know she'll work her magic. can't wait to show you all!

{five}
I may or may not still have Christmas decor up. no lights or tree, but stockings? yes. Christmas cards still hung? yes. talk about being a slacker.

{six}
I think Punxsutawney Phil is full of shit. it's 60 degrees here in Maryland today (and was yesterday too), so I don't see Old Man Winter hanging around for another 6 weeks. I'm sure I'll have my foot in my mouth when it snows next week or something, haha.

{seven}
I've read 6 books this year already! yeehaw! to be fair, they were mostly young adult fantasy crap, so I flew right through them. I'm working on The Red Tent right now, and it's proving to be much more adult, and therefore a little harder to get into.

show & tell

linking up at Paper Heart Camera's Show & Tell Challenge
Inspiration: Self Portrait Challenge! Sitting.

SHOW:

TELL:
I was sitting on my couch at about 11PM on Christmas Eve,
playing with my new lens (Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM).
I know you can't really tell that I was sitting, but I swear I was.
pinky promise.
