eye candy

it's so weird to see these images on decorpad, thinking they look familiar, and then realizing that I've seen them (and probably pinned them) on Pinterest. ha!

weekend recap, Sally, and Skillet, the little black kitten

woah...I can't believe it's been a week since we last saw each other. it's been a long time since I went a week without blogging! unfortunately, it's not because I won a fantastic surprise trip to some tropical island. but that would be the bee's knees.

although, last weekend I did have an absolute BLAST in New Jersey at my friend Katie's bachelorette party. the house we stayed in was simply amazing, the weather was perfect, and the company was even greater - all in all, it made for hilarious memories... and embarrassing pictures galore!

________________________________________________

but anyway. so I ended up capturing another kitten on Monday, and he's been a pretty sick little guy, which means this crazy cat lady has had her hands full. he had some gooey eyes and gross diarrhea, so I took him right to the vet this week.

turns out that he's got an upper respiratory infection, a base case of roundworms, and coccidia... which means he has to be quarantined from the other cats, and he's on two different types of medicines.

you can imagine how wonderful it is to give medicine to a scared little sick kitty, right?

and the best part? he has to be on these meds for 14-21 days. so even if I found a home for him now, he would be cooped up in our bathroom for another 3 weeks.

in the meantime, we're still trying to find homes for the other kittens we took in that I blogged about here. Callie has found her forever home, but Gizmo and Buckwheat are still tromping around the bedroom of Casa De Quinn, causing a ruckus.

so yeah, anyway, I've been busy. and tired. like really fucking tired. little Skillet cries at the door in the bathroom until I come in to comfort him, which results in me sleeping on the bathroom floor just to get some rest. it's extremely exhausting, but he's really cute and he seems to be feeling much better now that he's properly fed, hydrated, and medicated. he even had the energy to play with some little mice yesterday, which made me a very happy foster mama.

oh, and when I was packing my bags for NJ on Thursday evening, I realized I wasn't going to have time to paint my nails and toes, which was obviously a serious crisis, haha. but then I remembered that I bought those Sally Hansen Nail Strip thing-a-ma-jigs a while back when I saw them in the grocery store, but had never had the balls to try them. for some reason, I was just so worried I would mess them up, haha.

I finally put them on and they are amazing. seriously, guys. I will probably never paint my nails again because it was SO MUCH EASIER than having to deal with nail polish and touch ups and fumes. I used Glitz Blitz on my fingernails and Check It Out on my toes.
I had soooo many people compliment my houndstooth toes and ask where I found my very talented nail technician.

my response? "uhh, the grocery store!"

please excuse my un-manicured feet.

[DISCLAIMER]:
sadly, I was not compensated for giving a review of Sally Hansen's products, nor was I asked to post about my experience with said product. however, I would not be opposed to receiving them for free in the future, as they are a little pricey at $10 a pack. kthx.

Happy Thursday!

fill in the blank Friday!

yay! I love a Friday, except I always seem to have that stupid
Rebecca Black song stuck in my head on Fridays. boo on that.

brain dump & online shopping

how is it only the second day of summer, but it's literally 4 million degrees outside with a heat index of 9 million? also, why does it feel like I've been SO busy already? oh wait, cause I have! let's do a little catching up, shall we?

two weekends ago, Sean & I met up with a bunch of our friends at Coconut Joe's for some dranks. and by "some dranks," I mean that I consumed so many orange crushes that I was puking all day Sunday and although I typically like to enjoy a good naval orange on a daily basis, I have yet to be able to stomach one since that evening. it seems as though my hangovers are increasingly getting worse with age, but I guess it's my own damn fault for thinking I can drink like I used to. damn the man!

last Wednesday I finally got my hair trimmed and dyed and it feels amazing and so much lighter. the only problem is that I tried to do that curly hair headband trick and my freshly cut layers were falling out all over the place. whomp whomp. oh well, at least my wig looks awesome!

I got a little click happy and ordered a few new dresses a few weeks ago - 4 from Forever 21 and 1 from Buckle (along with those gold sandals I mentioned here):

Cat Print Dress - $17.80

Moroccan Surplice Dress - $19.80

Daytrip Zig-Zag Striped Dress - $32.00

Woven Tribal Print Dress (blue/orange is no longer available) - $17.80
Smocked Tie-Dye Dress - $9.00

the cat dress I ordered to wear to a bachelorette party this weekend is too small. like... hugs the curves in a bad way and maybe if I lose some weight I can someday wear it as a shirt. this is also a painful reminder that I REALLY need to get my ass in gear and get back in the gym on a daily basis. talk about disappointing... I was really looking forward to showing off my crazy cat ladyness out in public.

the tie-dye dress is a teeny bit shorter than I'd like, but it's not terribly revealing, so I might just stick to leggings when I wear it. the other dresses fit amazingly well! I wore the Zig-Zag Striped dress to Kullen's birthday party last weekend and got a lot of compliments on it!

my favorite little curly headed Kullen turned TWO last weekend! I got to help Kaley a little bit with the party, and let me just say... she did such an astounding job with all the little details! there was a three tiered Yo Gabba Gabba cake, cookie lollipops, rainbow fruit kabobs, chocolate covered pretzels, balloons galore and SO many more little touches thrown in to make it special. the party was a complete success!

Kullen is a lucky boy to have such a great mama, and I'm a lucky girl for having such a wonderful friend who shares her cute son with me! :)

my skin has been breaking out like I'm a 12 year old boy. ever since getting off birth control, my skin has been rebelling against me completely. I saw a dermatologist, who prescribed me a topical lotion to apply after showering, which I've been doing for about 2 months now. everything is cleared up except MY FACE. I never dealt with acne growing up, so it's all new to me to have to deal with this crap, and it sucks completely. if anyone has any tips, I'm all ears.

alright, I think that's all I got for today. I'm heading out tomorrow afternoon for a little girl's weekend trip to New Jersey for a bachelorette party - we'll be staying at a beach house in Avalon and then scooting over to Atlantic City for some fun on Saturday evening. it's going to be a great time, as long as I don't end up with another hungover-all-day Sunday.

Happy Thursday!

  • also, I got the invites sent out last week, so that was a big relief! now I get to do all the fun crafty stuff! here's what the invites look like. I'll be continuing with the loose onesie theme, but mostly just coordinating with the colors of the invite - blues, teals, and greens.

  • new shoes I ordered this week, thanks to the help of my fashionista friend, Sarah. they are the hotness, but they're a tad too small, so I'll be exchanging them for a bigger size.

I was looking for a pair of shoes to wear with this dress (it has cats on it!) out for a bachelorette party that were NOT high heels. I walk like a baby deer in heels, and I'm okay with that.

oh, and I also bought these and I'm wearing them right now. I love the gold color and the braided thong strap. they're super comfy and cute. SUPER.

  • the Bruins win against the Canucks in the Stanley Cup. I don't usually root for Boston, as I'm a Caps fan, but Sean & I have family in Boston, so we were happy that they got to see their team shut out their opponent.

  • I'm almost finished reading Homer's Odyssey by Gwen Cooper, and I like it a lot so far. it's the story of her blind cat, who, despite all the odds against him, does miraculous things like... chasing off a burglar from her home, finding a can of tuna that hasn't been opened, etc. it reminds me a lot of Bear and how he faced such adversity when he was young and he turned out to be the coolest cat ever. I'll be sure to review it completely when I'm done.

  • discovering that Sar gave me the Stylish Blogger award. obviously, I'm a terrible award receiver because I just realized it and it's been almost a month since she wrote this post! woops, sorry friend! I will do my dutiful 10 favorite things post next week.. promise!

  • this little nugget, who sleeps like this ALL THE TIME. I'll be sad when they have their forever homes (next week, possibly), but I will be ready to have my sanity back.

wee bit Wednesday!

{one} what color best describes you + why?
uh, I'm not sure I'd use a color to describe me. how does that even work?

{two} how have you changed in the past year?
I'd say the biggest change I've made in the last year is really raising my standards with my friendships. I was always a big people pleaser, but I've learned that it's not always the best idea to try and make everyone happy. I've become much more selective in choosing people to play significant roles in my life.

{three} have you ever had any surgeries?
nothing serious - wisdom teeth removal, fixed a broken nose.

{four} why did you start your blog?
I honestly don't know, haha. I guess I just wanted a place to track my ideas and my life. I like to look back on where I was a certain point. makes for a fun scrapbook of sorts. :)

{five} what are you looking forward to this summer?
spending time with friends, our anniversary (2 years!) vacation, throwing a baby sprinkle for one of my best friends, the arrival of said baby, possibly camping at the end of summer, and wedding planning with my other best. :)

{six} do you have any family traditions for the 4th of July?
nah, not really. we usually spend it with friends.

{seven} what’s something new that you’ve tried in the past few months?
growing my own herbs - and it's awesome!

{eight} what is the perfect a/c temperature?
I like it a little warmer than most - 72 is perfection.

{nine} what was the last movie you saw in the theater?
uhhh... crap. I don't remember. it's been a while, obviously, and truthfully, I HATE going to the movies. it's way overpriced and I'd rather be comfortable on my couch than have a bunch of tweens kicking my seat and texting/talking the whole time.

{ten} what song do you think everyone should hear at least once?
Adele's cover of "To Make You Feel My Love" - it's beautiful.
