grrr, this is my angry face

before I begin this, I would like to state for the record that I'm feeling hormonal today, which is probably where this post is coming from. also, because I know people will read this and automatically think "OMG that post is about me"... it's probably not, so calm yourself. these things are a combination of annoyances that I've witnessed on Facebook, Twitter, and the like. really, they're all just generalized pet peeves that I have instilled in my mind. oh, and it's my blog, so I can do what I want.

I really hate to be negative, but some things have just been irking my nerves, and I feel as though I have to vent. I think bullet style will work best here, because if I don't this might turn into a 10 page essay, and we don't want that amount of negativity here, now do we?

so here we go... a little list of sorts of things that piss me off to no end.
  • Hormones. getting off birth control has turned me into a chocolate craving, bitchy, hormonal, breakdown having, spazzed out psycho. I was always real laid back, never had to worry about my flying off the handle or anything. yeah, that shit's over. nowadays I can go from 0 to Holy Shit Why Am I Crying AGAIN? in about 2 seconds. poor Sean... he truly didn't know what he was getting into... I didn't even know I had the capability of being like that, but I think my hormones are just completely out of whack. I hope I'll be normal again someday.
  • Negative Nancies. if more than 75% of your Facebook updates, tweets, blog posts, etc contain something that could be considered a "rant," go do something that makes you happy, because you've obviously got way too much time on your hands to sit around and bitch about everything. complaining about things and not making changes in your life make you worthless.
  • yes, I realize that this blog post is a "rant" but most of my posts here are happy ones and I feel that one negative post in a dozen of happy ones makes me human, not Debbie Downer or Negative Nancy.
  • People Pleasers. while yes, I think that if you have a blog that you want to be popular, it's important to reach out to your readers. but do not change yourself completely based on what's trendy in blogging right now. write about what YOU want to write about, and don't worry about what others think. you're never going to please everyone. if you aren't passionate about the things you write about, chances are, people will smell that from a mile away. if you really want to please people, just be yourself. :)
  • The Word "Front" Used As A Verb. I shit you not, I've read or heard this at least 8 times in the past week and one instance was reading it regarding the analysis of Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby on a discussion board for my English class. if you are not ghetto, please refrain from using the word "front" in any other way than describing the location of something, ie my fist in front of your face.
  • Over-Analyzers. stop worrying about what other people are doing/saying/thinking and stop trying to analyze WHY they're doing/saying/thinking these things. stop questioning it... people have their own opinions for a reason, and it's not so that you can speculate and judge them; get your own life.
  • Unsolicited Advice/Opinions. people who need to have an opinion about my husband and I trying to have a baby and subsequently feeling the need to question me about it, such as "are you sure you're ready for it? zomg they're such a big responsibility!" and "why do you have to 'try'? it's not hard! look at me, I got knocked up accidentally WHILE on birth control. TWICE! woops!" while that's awesome for you, it's not a really considerate thing to say. and a little birdie (aka everyone I've ever met in my life that actually has children) once told me that you're never truly ready for kids. but thanks for being concerned.
  • Motherfuckin' ANTS. I keep my house clean and these sons of bitches still find a way in. they're in random places too, like my bathtub! obviously, the people who installed our tub didn't do such a great job caulking/grouting, so it looks like we'll be taking on yet another home improvement project. add it to the list.
  • Mean Girls. I guess what I mean by this is, girls who hate other girls simply because they have a vagina. the whole "well I just get along better with dudes" act is probably not true. if you don't have girlfriends that you can trust, it's most likely because you're a bitch and untrustworthy. I mean sure, I get along with guys too, but that's because they aren't complex human beings like women and don't require much effort to maintain a friendship with.
  • Undeserving Pet Owners. think of having a pet as having a child. if you cannot afford to take care of a child (except that it's actually a lot CHEAPER than having an actual human), you should not have a pet. I understand that unexpected things happen and spontaneous trips to the vet definitely suck, but it comes with the territory as being a pet owner and it's something that is bound to happen. there's no such thing as a "free" puppy/kitten/iguana. also, if you keep your cat/dog/domesticated animal as an "outdoor" pet, only giving it attention when it suits your needs, just shoot yourself, but make sure to have a good home for your pet before you go. if there's one thing I will judge you on, it's how you treat your animals.

good day, sir.

    fill in the blank Friday!

    play here!

    1.   I am looking forward to     being a bridesmaid in Kaycie & Adam's wedding! so, so, SO excited to help plan and be a part of their big day.

    2.  Something kind of embarassing that I still love anyway is    ... I'm not really embarrassed by the things that I like.

    3.  My favorite car is       one that's paid off! ha!

    4.  If I could pick one type of weather to live with for the rest of my life it would be    Hawaiian weather, which means it's hot enough to enjoy, but not sweltering.

    5.  My favorite thing to do after a bad/stressful day is     relax with a glass (or bottle) of wine, a bath, and a good read.

    6.  This weekend       I will be watching the Caps beat the Lightning tonight, eating some crabs & drinking beer with family & friends tomorrow, and participating in the March of Dimes walk on Sunday.

    7.  If I were a color, I'd be      granny smith apple green     because,       it's fucking awesome.

    Friday loves

    • this tattoo that I stumbled upon via Pinterest. I've been thinking of getting something that represents the American Indian part of me, and I love this dreamcatcher. it's simple but beautiful.
if you know the original source of this image, let me know so I can credit it properly!

    • the ever so addicting Words With Friends game that I downloaded on my phone. I'm a word game fiend and so naturally, I'm hooked on it. I've been playing with friends as well as random opponents. if you want to play, shoot me an email!
    • Michael Scott's last episode of The Office. I have no words, other than I AM SO SAD.

    image

    • this pasta sauce recipe that we cooked last night. we used a lot more cheese than the recipe call for, and it turned out pretty well. if we make it again (which I'm sure we will, cause I get sick of eating red sauce), I'll probably only use half of the pasta. either way, it was delicious! I will have pictures soon!
    • Cole's roundup of rain boots. I've been wanting a pair of rain boots for what seems like forever, and Target chevron pretties are a callin' my name!
    • the whole navy blue/nautical thing that West Elm's got goin' on right now. more specifically, these napkins and these pillows, and this shower curtain. I would like them all in my home now, please and thank you.

    • Clara's birth story. holy hell, there were a lot a terrified moments leading up to this girl's arrival, and you would have never known it if not for Sherry's heart wrenching post this week.
    • Erika's kitchen makeover - specifically, the after pictures. I especially love the old gym locker in the pantry and the open shelves! oh, and the green cabinets don't hurt either.

    wee bit Wednesday!

{one} have you ever been stuck in an elevator?
no, thank goodness. I would flip the fuck out.

{two} have you ever ridden on an elephant?
yes! at Disney when I was just a little girl.

{three} have you ever met a well known celebrity?
yeah, a few here and there. I mean I haven't sat down and had dinner with anyone or anything, but typical meet & greet stuff.

{four} do you have any food allergies?
    no sir.

{five} do you know how to sew?
I sure don't... that's what they make hot glue for. aaand that's what I have Kaley for.

{six} did you get an allowance when you were young?
ha! no way. I did chores in order to have the privilege of a social life outside of school and home. and chores didn't mean cleaning my own room or setting the table... it meant cleaning the house, cooking dinner, doing everyone's laundry, etc.

{seven} how often do you fill up your gas tank?
ugh, TOO DAMN MUCH. this is why hubs and I carpool now.

{eight} have you ever been stung by a jelly fish?
nooooooo, and I hope to keep it that way. jelly fish seriously terrify me.

{nine} have you ever been robbed?
hmm not that I can recall.

{ten} what is the worst haircut you’ve ever had?
I know that I'm only one of many who sported the bowl cut in elementary school.

    eggs-cellent

    bad easter pun, I know.
before heading to the husband's parent's house for family dinner on Sunday, we stopped in at my dad's house to see my little brother. we got there right in time as they were getting ready to sit down and dye eggs.

I made myself right at home and devoured 4 hard boiled eggs before anyone noticed they were gone. :)

here are some snippets from our morning!

of course, I didn't take any pictures at the in-law's house... but to be fair, there weren't any cute kids there either, haha.

    ______________________________________

in other news, I am way behind in my school work. like, I have yet to turn in (or even complete, for that matter) a paper that was due two weeks ago on the theme of love & marriage in A Midsummer Night's Dream. ugh.

I emailed my professor and she'll accept my work late, but the problem is that I have no idea on where to even start on such a vague topic. obviously there are a billion examples of love in the play. I'm skipping the gym tonight to get it completed, along with a discussion post that I missed last week. I really suck at life lately.

    _____________________________________

it's currently 85 degrees in my office. needless to say, I am sweating like a pig. I wanted the warm weather, but not before my cheapo boss (aka my dad) thinks it's an acceptable idea to turn on the AC.

    Happy Monday!

    happy Monday: siblings

    this week's theme is siblings.
and I happen to have the cutest one there is.
he has the longest lashes and the bluest eyes,
and a crazy fun personality to go with them!

    Sleeve progress!

Sat for about 2 1/2 hours today. I did pretty well for the first half but started to get antsy around the 2 hour mark. But happy to report that it's starting to look like an actual sleeve!

    soft kitty, pretty kitty...

as if I need another distraction from my everyday responsibilities... a friend of mine recently shared this link with me. so for all my fellow CCL's (that's crazy cat lady, FYI)... you're welcome.

oh, and if for some reason, you can't do video right now because you're at work or whatever, here are some pictures that I shamelessly stole from www.kittencam.org so that you can get your fix in too.

these little bundles of love are only 9 days old and residing in California. I would give a body part to visit them. someone buy me a place ticket!

oh, and if you think they're cute in the pictures, wait til you see them on video. especially when the mama cat gets back in the box after eating... the "mew mew mew" of the babes are enough to make my heart pitter patter.

    fill in the blank Friday!

    play along here!

    1.   Fridays are       for letting go of the past week and taking a break & relaxing until the next one.

    2.    Sleeping in, a good book, kitty cuddles, the color mustard, girl time, anything caramel, and throw pillows are all things that    make me terribly happy.

    3.  Something that inspires me is     reading/watching movies about people who overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. <---- I couldn't have said it better myself. in fact, I just saw that The Help is now a movie, and I'm SO excited.

    4.  If I had the day off today I would     sleep in, read a bit (or maybe all) of the book I'm reading now, make some food for girl's night tonight, get my nails done, and do homework... it's an eventful life I lead.

    5.  If I had to put a label on my home decor style, I would say my style is    "clean modern eclectic." I like cohesive but somewhat offbeat color schemes, brighter spaces with lots of light, modern furniture with a mix of finishes, and personal/funky decor. I also like tidy areas - not too much clutter or STUFF, which you would never guess by looking at my house, ha!

    6.  Concerning politics I would say I'm       not open to discuss it on my blog.

    7.  I'd like to go to     Costa Rica     so I could       hike through the rain forest and stand under a waterfall.

    Friday loves

this video that Sean sent me this week. baby laughing at a dog who eats bubbles. I'm pretty positive there's nothing cuter in the world.

I don't have much of a green thumb, but I've been wanting to grow my own herbs this year. these three planters (thyme, rosemary & basil) from C&B would be perfect to sit on my window sill. and if I ever got tired of growing herbs, they could double as flower planters too.

our local March of Dimes walk is a little over a week away, and I'm thoroughly excited about it. one, it's for a great cause, obviously. our team has raised almost $2500 for the charity and I couldn't be more proud to be a part of the largest walking team in our area.

oh, and two, it'll be great exercise. and I'm wearing a purple & black tutu. don't worry, there will be about a gazillion pictures taken. <---- I know this isn't something I've come across on the internet this week, but I'm SO pumped, I couldn't NOT post something about it.

these running shoes, which I may or may not be buying for myself. there will be a post regarding my progress (or lack thereof) of the C25k next week. short story is that I've got shin splints and I need them to heal. I've also been running wrong. only I would find the "wrong" way to run and fuck my legs up because of it.

I started following Sherry's (from YHL, as if you didn't already know that) boards on Pinterest this week, and am so glad I did. she is an awesome pinner (is that a real term?) and I love her style! it would be awesome if their servers weren't down all the time though, ugh.

also, while I'm on the subject of cute baby & dog videos AND my crazy obsession totally normal affinity with YHL, check this video out. adorbs in every sense of the word.

spending hours a day watching a live feed of a Bald Eagle pair and their newborn baby chicks! thank you to Kaley for passing this cuteness over to me! it's seriously one of most awesome things I've ever seen. if you haven't seen it, go here now and keep it up on your computer at all times. you will not regret it.

    Delirium [book review]

I have been on a roll with the YA fiction novels, I'm tellin' you. I still need to review the Hunger Games trilogy, and then I'll move on to the Emily Giffin books I've picked up lately as well. I'm 12 books into my 2011 Reading Challenge... only 38 more to go! ;)

    SUMMARY
"Love" is a word that is not allowed to leave the lips of the citizens of the US in Lauren Oliver's Delirium. Love and desire are thought to be a disease, and every person in the country must go through the "procedure" in order to be "cured" from the illness. Girls & boys are separated and not allowed to socialize until they're cured, and schools are even segregated in order to prevent the spread of the disease throughout the community. In a world without heartbreak, without pain, and without worry, nothing could possibly go wrong.

All her life, Lena Holoway has looked forward to being cured. Ever since her mother committed suicide when she was infected with the deliria, she's been terrified that she is somehow genetically imbalanced and more likely to end up with the disease. The disease hits your heart first, and then slowly deteriorates the rest of your body as you fall deeper and deeper into the madness.

Lena is a normal teenage girl who hangs out with her best friend, Hana, and is constantly studying for her evaluations, in which she'll be paired with her future mate. She's counting down the days until her procedure, and then the worst thing possible (in her mind) happens... she falls in love.

    REVIEW
Ironically, I felt so much love for this book that I'm genuinely distraught by the fact that I have to wait until February for the second book to be released.

This book was everything I wanted it to be - it was definitely young-adult material in terms of content, but it wasn't the whiny, emotional, love triangle/internal struggle type of YA reading, which was well received by me, for sure.

The concept was unbelievable and Oliver obviously spent about a bajillion hours cultivating ideas to make it seem so real and possible... this world that drills into the minds (figuratively AND literally) of the people to make them afraid of love. They are so scared of catching the "disease" that will cause insanity. There are harsh punishments, including death, for those that stray from the strict rules of this society. Romeo & Juliet is a "cautionary tale" which teaches students a lesson... that to fall in love is to ultimately kill yourself. Any interaction with the opposite sex before you're cured could cause the contraction of the deliria and must be avoided at all costs.

All the characters were extremely well developed, and seemed more mature than the main characters of most YA fiction... Lena especially. Her relationships with the people around her were clear and well laid out - from her irritability with her snobby cousin Jenny, to her envy of her beautiful and seemingly perfect best friend Hana. And from her indifference towards her uncle, with whom she lives, to her undeniable curiosity and affection with Alex, the mysterious boy that she falls in love with.

One of the aspects that I loved about Delirium is the amount of actual activity going on. Of course, you have your beginning where you get all your background information, but most of the necessary filler information was spread throughout the book, which I really appreciated. I hate opening a book and having to struggle through the first few chapters to get a good grasp for the story. This book dove right into the action, and I loved every bit of it. There are a lot of major (and interesting, obviously) events that occur throughout the book, which made it incredibly easy to keep reading, and I found myself really battling to put the book down at night, causing me to stay up way past my bed time numerous evenings.

Needless to say, I loved this book. It was an incredibly strong read, with exceptional characters and a well developed plot. Oh, and a giant surprise at the end. February 2012 cannot come soon enough!
